We understand how disruptive and life altering dry eyes can be. We use state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and successfully manage your dry eye, even if you have suffered for years. While dry eye isn’t a serious condition, it can have a major impact on your quality of life. You may find your eyes get tired faster or you have difficulty reading. Not to mention the discomfort of a burning sensation or blurry vision. Let’s take a look at dry eye treatments – from simple self-care to innovative prescriptions and therapies – to help you see clearly and comfortably.
Ocular Surface Disease (also known as Dry Eye or Dysfunctional Tear Syndrome) is a chronic, progressive condition characterized by redness, burning, watering, blurred vision, and so on.
This condition requires careful monitoring and adherence to treatment protocols to protect eye health and preserve vision. Each patient treated in our office has a personalized treatment plan, tailored to their individual signs and symptoms, in addition to the newest diagnostic and management options available
Environment: Do NOT use ceiling fans but rather substitute with floor fans NOT directed toward head or face. A cool air humidifier may also be helpful. Exercise caution with vents located in your home, at work or or in the car. Avoid being around smoke, even second-hand smoke, or other irritants (perfumes, air fresheners).
Hydration: The recommended water intake is your body weight divided by 2 = ounces of water per day (but rarely less than 2 quarts/day). Try to drink half of this quantity by noon and the other half by dinner to avoid frequent night time urination. Another rule of thumb: clear to nearclear urine is desirable, if not, time to hydrate.
Blink Break: 20/20/20 Rule: Try taking a 20 second break from digital devices every 20 minutes by looking 20 feet away. You can also download the Blink Break app on your phone.
Sleep: Decreased sleep quality can aggravate dry eye symptoms. Treatment will help with nighttime comfort, but if you need help getting 7+ hours of restful sleep, without snoring or frequent waking, we can recommend sleep aids or request a consultation with a sleep specialist.
We offer cutting-edge therapies designed to target the root causes of dry eye disease and enhance your overall eye comfort. Whether you're dealing with meibomian gland dysfunction or other ocular surface conditions, our advanced treatments can help alleviate discomfort and provide long-term relief. We specialize in innovative solutions like Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT), and Radio Frequency (RF) treatment, each offering unique benefits to address dryness, redness, and irritation. By harnessing these technologies, we help restore balance to the eyes and support healthier, more comfortable vision.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy has traditionally been used in aesthetics, but it is now recognized as an ocular surface disease treatments. IPL releases focused wavelengths of light to treat conditions that contribute to meibomian gland dysfunction, a common cause of dry eye symptoms, providing long-lasting relief.
Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) is an effective, non-invasive solution designed to improve eye comfort, particularly for patients experiencing dry eye symptoms. LLLT uses targeted light energy to reduce inflammation and stimulate cellular rejuvenation in the eyes. This therapy promotes natural moisture production, helping to relieve dryness, redness, and irritation. By addressing the underlying causes of dry eye, LLLT offers long-term relief and helps restore comfort to your eyes.
Radio Frequency (RF) energy is used to improve eye health, especially in patients with meibomian gland dysfunction, a condition where important glands become blocked or disfigured, failing to secrete enough oil or secrete poor quality oil. Tempsure™ Envi uses radio frequency energy to raise the temperature of the skin around the eyes, helping to unclog glands in the upper and lower eyelids. The treatment also boosts collagen production, which may reduce the look of fine lines in the eye area and improve eyelid function (blinking/closure).
